Why Standing Up For The American Flag Has Never Meant More

How You Can Honor the American Flag

It’s impossible to see the American Flag flying proudly anywhere in the United States without feeling a sense of patriotism throughout your entire body. Everyone is touched by the flag in their own unique ways; it represents all of us as Americans, but it means something different to all of us individually.

The flag is far more than a piece of wood or fabric; respecting the flag means standing up for the patriots that have given and continue to give their lives in service of our great country. It is our responsibility to honor the sacrifices that have allowed us to be a part of this free country, and we must find ways to respect the flag that represents so much to each of us.

Knowing the History

To truly understand and honor the importance of the American Flag, it’s essential to recognize the incredible history that it represents. The Betsy Ross Flag was flown during the Revolutionary war, representing the 13 colonies that fought for their right to independence from Great Britain.

An estimated 25,000 Americans died as a result of the war, and more died from illness and wounds associated with the war. That’s nearly 1% of the entire population of the United States at the time; when we see the Betsy Ross flag, we should take a moment to remember those that gave up their lives for that original flag and the freedoms that it represented.

Since declaring our independence, Americans have continually sacrificed their lives for the safety of everyone in our country as well as those who live abroad. Overall, an estimated 1,196,554 American soldiers have died in active wars.

This is why we stand for the American Flag. Whether it’s the 1776 Flag or the current flag with it’s 50 stars and 13 stripes, we stand for the men and women who have gone before us and sacrificed their lives for us. The least we could do for them is to continue to stand up for the flag and to those that don’t respect the freedoms they fought for.

Respecting our Officers

Police officers make a choice every day just like the one made by our military: they put their lives on the line for our freedoms. At a time when it’s becoming more and more difficult for officers to do their jobs, it’s more and more important that we show officers our respect and that we express our appreciation for them.

If you know an officer or if you interact with one during their service, take the time to thank them for what they do for your community. Remember that the Thin Blue Line Flag, or the Police Flag, represents the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe.

Final Thoughts

Supporting the great American Flag will never go out of style. Respecting the flag is a simple and beautiful way to pay homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us.

When we display the Flag, whether it be through American Flag wall decor, a Wooden American Flag, or a flag that proudly flies over our homes, we show the world that we are grateful for those who fought for our freedoms. We also commit to remember their legacies by valuing the liberties we have been given in our great nation.
